William Joshua Bacon, age 91, of Livonia, Michigan passed away May 28, 2021, after suffering a stroke. Bill was born October 15, 1929, to Dr. Joshua and Ethel Bacon in Dubuque, Iowa where he grew up. His studies at the University of Iowa were interrupted by the Korean War. He proudly served in the US Air Force for four years. During this time, he married his high school sweetheart, Gladys Nesler. Their happy marriage lasted 56 years until her death. They had two sons, Bruce and Richard, and eventually moved to Worthington, Ohio. Bill was a charming and sociable person with a dry sense of humor. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. His interests included sailing, canoeing, traveling, and tinkering with cars. He served as an usher at First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois and volunteered at their food pantry. Beloved husband of the late Gladys. Loving father of Bruce (the late Noreen) and Richard (Linda). Dearest grandfather of Derek (Jennifer) Bacon, Alexander (Heather) Bacon, Sarah (Justin) Bacon, and Kevin Bacon. Dear brother of Beatrice (James) Kunnert. Brother-in-law of Sam Cowen. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Cowen. Visitation Saturday June 5, 2021, from 10 am until time of funeral service and Military honors at 12 noon at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 30200 Five Mile Rd., Livonia, Michigan. Interment for William, along with his wife Gladys, will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to Gleaners Community Food Bank.
