Shirley Oommen, 54, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away in the comfort of her home. A loving mother, and caring wife, Shirley fully embraced family life. Shirley was the oldest daughter of founding Detroit Marthoma Church members Simson (Babu) and Mariamma (Thankamma) Oliver.
In the early years, Shirley loved being a child of the 80’s. She loved sports, the outdoors, and listening to the radio. She made lifelong friends from Dearborn Chapel, St. Sebastian School, Detroit Marthoma Church, and Kerala Club. Growing up, Shirley was known as adventurous with an infinite amount of energy, humor, and spontaneity.
In her teen years, Shirley was soft-spoken, kind, and had a gift for engaging in conversation and listening with compassion. After the college years, Shirley blossomed into a graceful young woman with a gentle personality. She went on to marry Koshy in India and together they built a life in both Michigan and later in Indiana. After their son Rohan was born, he was the light of their life to say the least.
The Oommen Family has resided in Indiana for the last 22 years. Over the years, they developed lifelong friendships in Indiana and still made time to travel to Michigan to visit family often. Of all her blessings, Shirley enjoyed travel to India, company of her pets, and visits with her friends. Her love for movies of various Indian languages, knew no bounds.
Shirley did experience pain and suffering due to various medical issues, but she remained steadfast and always maintained that God is good always. It is our hope that she will continue to smile now that she has been welcomed into our Lord’s heavenly home by our parents and loved ones that have passed on before us. Though we mourn her passing, we are grateful for the love, laughter, and memories she gave us, which will remain in our hearts forever.
Visitation for Shirley will be Sunday, August 23, 2026 and the funeral will be Monday, August 24, 2026 at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 30200 Five Mile Rd., Livonia, Michigan 48154. Times will be established soon.
