Life Story / Obituary

Richard “Dick” Hammer of Plymouth passed away April 1, 2025 at the age of 83. He was born July 11, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Elvin and Edith Hammer.

Dick worked for Farmer Jack for over 30 years. However, his ambition was always to own his own store. So, once he retired, he purchased Maria’s Italian Bakery in Westland and owned and operated it for 14 years. If he wasn’t working, you could find him on his boat or fishing at Murray Lake. He loved NASCAR, classic cars, and the Woodward Dream Cruise. His favorite movie was Indiana Jones and his favorite music was the Beach Boys. Most of all, he loved his 4-legged furry friends and enjoyed his daily dog walks.

Beloved husband of Dianne for 62 wonderful years. Loving father of Cathy (Tom) Zremski, Richard Hammer Jr., and Christy (Mike) Schoonover. Dearest grandfather of Tori Zremski, Alyssa (Niko) Camilletti, and Alice Schoonover. Dear brother of Vicki (Darrel) Parker.

Visitation Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 3-7 pm with a Scripture service at 6 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren Rd., Canton, Michigan 48187.

Instate Monday, April 7, 2025 from 10:30 am until time of Mass at 11 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Rd, Canton, MI 48187.
