Anyone that knew Michael King would surely call him a friend as anyone he ever met was made to feel special. He wanted nothing more than happy moments for those around him. A lover of the Christmas season, he lived his life being genuinely gracious to each and every person he met throughout his life. Selflessly giving both his time and resources, Michael lived a life of modeling generosity toward others. There is no doubt that he will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his many special friends and loved ones.

It is completely fitting that Michael arrived in the 1960s which was known as the era of optimism. At the beginning of this promising decade in our nation’s history, Michael and Patricia King welcomed home their newborn son, Michael, on April 12, 1960, in Parkersburg, West Virginia. His birth gave his parents much hope and happiness.

Growing up, his family gave him the permanent nickname, Mikey. They continued calling him Mikey throughout his life. Fun-loving and always ready for a good time, he was definitely the popular cousin. One thing everyone knew for sure was that Michael was definitely not a fan of high school. Creative and outgoing, he enjoyed doing hair. As a result, he went on to receive his cosmetology license. Once working in the field, he was a natural leader, and his strong work ethic led him to be quickly promoted to manager of several Glemby International Salons. Above all else, Michael enjoyed people. He wanted to surround himself with those in his community and make everyone feel and look their personal best.

Michael met his life partner, Mike online on ICQ chat. Sharing many commonalities, they quickly became friends and eventually fell in love. Eager to be together, Michael moved to Michigan to join Mike and his kids in Canton. In his new surroundings, he worked as a health aid for Waltonwood Assisted Living until he eventually began his career at Kroger. Kroger provided him with a steady income as well as the ability to work with the community. He thrived in this role and remained there for sixteen wonderful years before he retired. His charming personality and quality customer service made him well-liked, and customers always appreciated him going the extra mile. Someone almost always recognized him when he and Mike were out around town. Even when they traveled out of state someone would notice his genuine smile and make the connection back to knowing him from Kroger! Michael loved supporting others through his many small acts of kindness. When it came to his work as well as his relationships, he always put forth his personal best to please others.

Michael lived a very fulfilling life. Always active and on the go, he also savored the simple pleasures in life. His greatest accomplishment was becoming a stepfather to Mike’s kids. He built genuine relationships with each of them. Michael loved them unconditionally and was always there for them. He wanted nothing more than to share in their successes and spend time with them. A great listener and provider, he always put family first as they meant the world to him. An avid traveler, some of his favorite trips over the years were to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or anywhere by a shoreline along the beach. A natural lover of water, he enjoyed boating and especially riding jet skis. Nothing made him happier than letting the sunshine hit his face near the ripples of any body of water. Michael enjoyed above all else, the time he was surrounded by those he loved.

He thoroughly enjoyed life, especially people. A loyal friend, Michael's sincere compassion for others will be deeply missed. Known as loveable, generous, caring, and handsome, he leaves behind countless memories of good times. He was always smiling, joking, and approaching each day with optimism. May his many friends and family hold his memories dear and fondly reflect on the many ways he shared his love with each and every one of them.

Michael King, age 62, of Canton, Michigan passed away on December 19, 2022. He was the beloved partner of Mike Garver for 24 wonderful years. Dear stepfather of Jennifer (Jeff), Natalie (Andrew), and Nicholas (Kayla). Dearest stepson of Lucy King. Loving brother of Kathy (Jack) Delancy, Donnie King, Jim (Kim) King, and Kevin (Sharon) King. Also survived by many grandchildren. Michael was predeceased by his parents, and his sisters, Pamela Smith, and Vicky King. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022, from 1 pm until the time of the funeral service at 5 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren Rd., Canton, Michigan 48187.
