Mary Ziaja died on April 14, 2020 at age 89 from complications due to dementia. She was born in her Detroit home in 1931, the only daughter of Filomena and Riziero, who immigrated from Italy. She had one brother, Joseph (deceased) whom she adored. Mary graduated from Western High School and went on to work at the Detroit Public Library. She married Stanley (deceased) on October 12, 1957. They raised their family of three children, Bob (Rose), Ellen (Bob), and Anne (Mike), in Redford, Michigan. She is survived by two grandchildren, Danielle and Dave. Mary devoted her life to raising her children and took care of her mother and husband through long illnesses. The Catholic church was a major part of her life. She was a lifelong member of St. John Bosco church where she was part of the Altar Society. Mary loved to walk, read, and listen to talk radio. She also loved a good polka! A memorial mass will be held in the future to honor her life. Donations can be sent to St. John XXIII (formally St. John Bosco) or the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center
