Mardell Eugene Pugh was the oldest child born to his proud parents, Melvin and Louvena Pugh, on September 18, 1956. Mardell and his brother, Sharreaf Pugh , sister, Tinishia Pugh Gooden were raised in Detroit, Michigan and attended schools here in the City. Mardell’s father, Melvin Pugh preceded him in death and his son, Courtney Pugh also passed away before him.

Mardell was christened in his early years at Bethany Tabernacle Church and attended Sunday school and morning service regularly at this house of worship.

In 1995, Mardell and Deborah Himes united in holy matrimony in Barbados and later became proud parents of two children, Mykala and Kameron Pugh. Prior to this marriage, Mardell became father to his older sons, Mardell Pugh II and Courtney Pugh (deceased).

Our dearly beloved family member also known as “Pookie” started at an early age working at various jobs. He developed a desire for employment from his dad, who set a good example for him and encouraged him to work diligently. After graduating from McKenzie High School in 1974, he became employed by Detroit Edison for a few years. Mardell was hired by Albert Kahn Architectural Associates as a delivery driver and processing clerk for over 10 years. He was also employed at Travel Charter for a number of years and enjoyed the traveling opportunities he was given. After many years at American Red Cross as a Medical Unit Assistant, he was eligible to retire and took advantage of the opportunity. After retiring from his final fulltime job, he worked as a private Uber Driver transporting physically challenged students to and from school.

Mardell was a very proud and loving husband, father, dedicated and caring son, son in law, awesome brother, great brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable in many subjects and loved to travel. He enjoyed bowling and helping those out in need.

Our beloved family member will always be cherished, never forgotten and his fond and precious memories will remain in our hearts forever. He leaves to mourn his beautiful ways and thoughtfulness to his wife, Deborah Himes Pugh; mother, Louvena Pugh; sons, Mardell Pugh II, Kameron Pugh; daughter, Mykala Pugh; brothers, Sharreaf A. Poem

For a Dear Loved One

You filled the world with special joy

And happiness untold,

You always had a sunny way

And a lovely heart of gold.

You made life so much brighter

Just by being thoughtful, too,

And saying kind and helpful things

Was typical of you

That’s why it’s hard to face the world

and know you won’t be there,

Lighting up life so warmly

With your smile beyond compare.

The memories you’ve left behind

Grow sweeter day by day

But you are missed dear Loved One,

More than any words can say.
