Life Story / Obituary

Leonard J. Babisz, 85, passed away peacefully on March 2nd 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 19, 1939, Leonard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army after being drafted for the Vietnam War, a service he carried with great honor throughout his life.

An avid outdoorsman, Leonard found joy in hunting and fishing, spending countless hours in nature doing what he loved. One of his proudest accomplishments was his well-earned retirement—34 years ago—which gave him the opportunity to enjoy the things that brought him happiness, especially time with family.

Leonard had a deep passion for cars, especially his beloved Corvettes, which he took great pride in. He also had a lifelong love for music, playing the saxophone and clarinet since he was nine years old. His talent and dedication to music remained strong, and he continued to play up until the weeks before his passing.

A true handyman, Leonard could fix or build anything. Whether it was home projects or lending a helping hand to family and friends, he always had the knowledge and skill to get the job done.

Leonard was married for 59 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Diana Babisz, who survives him. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. He is also survived by his son, Jeff (Carrollynn) Babisz, and his daughter, Jody (Clay) Nissan. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Sydney, Sierra, and Jared, who brought him endless joy.

Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Fred Babisz, his mother, Sophie, as well as his three brothers, Fred, Bob, and Hank Babisz, and his sister, Elaine.

His love for his family was unwavering, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, strength, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral mass, Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 11:00am (Instate 10:30am), St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Rd., Canton, MI 48187. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the HHT foundation.
