Life Story / Obituary
John W. “Bill” Brennan passed away on March 16, 2025. He was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on January 7, 1933 and was the son of the late James E. and Martha E. Brennan. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years, Audrey Faye Brennan.
Bill is survived by his three daughters and their husbands, Terry and Bob Viau, Patsy and Jim Stevens, and Christine and Greg Etienne. He was predeceased by one daughter, Debbie, and by one grandson, Jimmy. He loved his grandchildren: Kelly (Greg) McHugh, the late Jimmy (Rachel) Stevens, Billy (Danielle) Etienne, Tommy Etienne, Joey (Audrey Jackson) Etienne, Johnny (Erin) Etienne, Lance Viau, Trent (Traci) Viau, and Mike (Shanae) Viau, and his 7 great grandchildren very much.
Bill graduated from Cradock High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. He attended Virginia Tech where he graduated in 1954. He served as a commissioned officer with the US Army and served with the 550th AAA Battalion for two years followed by six years as a Reserve Officer. He was employed by GMAC in Brunswick, Georgia for 5 years. He was employed by Ford Motor Credit Company for 25 years in Savannah, Atlanta, Chicago and Dearborn. He retired as a Staff Operations Manager in 1990. While with Ford he earned a Master of Arts Degree from CMU.
He was a member of Saint John Neumann Church. He was a Knight of Columbus at SJN Council and a fourth degree Sir Knight of Pope John XXIII Assembly. He was a Past Grand Knight of Annunciata Council in Kitty Hawk, NC.
He was a member of the Old Guard at Virginia Tech. He was an ardent Hokie fan. He remained close friends with several of his classmates in the Cadet Corps graduating class. He authored a book for them recalling their many memories. His love for Tech took third place to only his family and church.
