John Joseph Blaies, Longtime resident of Livonia and Lewiston, MI passed away December 7, 2024. He was born January 22, 1929, in Detroit, MI to the late Herbert (Mary) Blaies. Loving husband of Mary for 73 years. Dear father of John (Kathleen), Robert (Kathleen), Janice and Michael (Angelle). Beloved grandfather of Jason, Joshua (Stephanie), Andrea (Kevin), Samantha, Jordan (Andrew), Timothy, Renee, Daniel (Joslyn), Emma, Jessica, Brayden and the late Evan. Great grandfather of Dominic, Colt, Grace, Caleb, Connor, Stella, Khloe, Christian, Rowan, Raya, Bella, Sophia, Conner and the late Henry. Dear brother of Gordon (Violet) and the late Herbert (Dorothy), the late Evelyn Durst, the late Joyce (Walter) Kizner.

John worked at General Motors for 45 years as a skilled trade pipefitter. Once he retired, in 1991, he moved to Lewiston, MI. John was also a proud Army Veteran; he served from 1951-1953. Sports were near to his heart. He played semi- pro football, baseball, softball, bowling and golf. He was also an avid outdoorsman. He especially loved to fish and hunt deer and turkey. John was a long time member of the America Legion and the Lewiston Lions Club. Other hobbies include: newspaper crosswords, crafting, feeding birds, birdwatching and snowmobiling.

Visitation Sunday, December 15, 2024 from 3pm until the time of funeral service at 6pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 30200 Five Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48154. A private interment will take place with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warrior Project.
