Izzy Mitchell was born with a heart of gold. Regarded for his loyalty as a friend, Izzy was a man of his word. If he promised something, he always followed through. Nothing brought him greater happiness than to share so much of his time and resources with others. Gone too soon, may his memories be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

The 1970s were characterized by many marginalized people still fighting for equality and with the increase of political conservatism and traditional family roles. By 1973, the Watergate hearings were underway and inflation was having a large impact on people’s lives. Popular television shows of this decade included, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Price Is Right. During these tumultuous times, Israel Sr. and Barbara Mitchell welcomed home their newborn baby boy, Israel Glass on December 25th in Detroit, Michigan. Named after his father, his family often called him Jr. His birth brought much joy to the family home.

Izzy lived a typical childhood of the times. He and his family were especially close. From a young age, Izzy enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting which lasted well into his adult years. His interest in cars was also sparked during his developing years. A romantic at heart, Izzy met his future bride during his years as a high school student at Joe Randazzo’s Produce. They enjoyed attending all the special events of their school years and joined in marriage after graduation. Together they were blessed with three beautiful children; Brandon, Brianna and Kaitlyn. They made the best of memories together.

A devoted husband and father, Izzy was a strong provider for his family. He put in long hours to pursue his career as an auto body painter. Once established in his twenty-year career, he was well known in the area for his artistic talent in painting cars. Remarkably, some of his work was showcased in the Detroit Autorama and various car shows. His passion for his work also led him to paint boats and motorcycles as well. For each and every project, Izzy paid attention to every detail and did his highest quality of work. A hard worker and always wanting to please his customers, he would often work through the night to complete a job. Whatever he put his mind to doing, he always gave it one hundred percent!

Dedicated to his family, Izzy enjoyed making memories with them in northern Michigan. A highlight of these years was taking his daughter, Brianna deer hunting for the first time. He was thrilled when she shot her first deer! Similarly, when his son, Brandon, shot his 15 pointer, Izzy had bragging rights for many months after! Although his daughter Kaitlyn wasn’t enthused with hunting, he treasured helping her reel in her first monster largemouth bass while fishing together. Any amount of time he spent with his children his heart was content. There is no doubt that his great passion for hunting and fishing will carry on with his children. The lessons and memories they shared together will last throughout their lives. He taught each of them the value of loyalty and through his special relationship to Trisha, he taught them the importance of love.

Izzy had a genuine personality. Many would say he was quiet, but his family knew different! Often the life of the party, there was never a dull moment when he was around. Each and every Christmas, which was also his birthday, Izzy extended an invitation to anyone who needed a place to go for the holidays. Izzy’s house was always welcome and no one was ever made to feel a stranger. He enjoyed preparing all the fixings and making sure there was enough to go around! Surrounded by love and comfort, being with Izzy was guaranteed a good time. His fun-loving and charming character was evident in his smile and good-natured humor. Izzy was a loving person who spent his life supporting others. His generosity, his commitment to his family, and his wonderful sense of humor will be celebrated and savored for generations to come. May his loved ones always remember the joy he brought to any family gathering and may they continue to feel his love whenever they are together. May he eternally rest in peace.

Israel G. Mitchell Jr. of Livonia, Michigan, passed away on April 23, 2021 at the age of 47. Loving son of Barbara and the late Israel Sr. He was the beloved husband to his high school sweetheart, Trisha Mitchell; proud father to Brandon Mitchell, Brianna Mitchell, and Kaitlyn Mitchell; loving brother to Cameron (Sherita) Mitchell, and David (Natasha) Mitchell; dear uncle to Cameron (Nicole) Mitchell Jr., Domonique Mitchell, Sarah Mesack, Megan Mesack, and Anthony Mesack. Izzy loved the outdoors and enjoyed his trips to northern Michigan, up where he loved to fish and hunt. He was a very well-respected man for his outstanding work painting cars, which he truly loved to do. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation begins at 11 AM and concludes before the service at 1 PM on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Turowski Life Story Funeral Homes 30200 Five Mile Rd in Livonia.
