Life Story / Obituary

Harvey L. Stroyan, 71, of Livonia passed away suddenly on August 11, 2024. If you knew Harvey, you were blessed to have known a Good Man: kind, patient, giving, grateful, and humble. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife Ellen, and they built a wonderful life together for over 27 years. He was a dear stepfather to Joseph (Kathy) Zynda. Harvey and Ellen loved spending time with Joe and Kathy. They enjoyed various craft beer-tasting experiences together and their traditional outing to the Pierogi Festival at Sweetest Heart of Mary in Detroit. They also loved spending time up north at their home near Kalkaska. Harvey pursued a passion for Golf. He could be found on any golf course wherever and whenever Michigan weather permitted. And if he couldn’t play golf, he was watching it…that is, unless Michigan football was on. He was a Super Fan of the Maize and Blue and never missed an opportunity to brag about the National Champion Wolverines. Harvey was also a proud American who loved his country.

Harvey worked over 30 years as an engineer for Hewlett Packard and Philips Healthcare and was an integral part of medical equipment installations. He lived his faith with selfless dedication within the St. Genevieve-St. Maurice community in Livonia. He served in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul; as a member and advocate for the Knights of Columbus Council #3959; as a member of the St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Men’s Club (where he prepared the best Fish Fry Clam Chowder!); and as an usher at weekly Mass. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and leaves a huge void in his faith community.

He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his sisters Pat Kraetz, Sheree Chapman, and Mary Dix (Mike); his brothers George (Florence), Frank (Darlene), and Dave; his in-laws Gerri DeLamielleure (Joe), Mark Smith (Kathy), Nancy Paja (Gary), Barb Miller (Glenn), Theresa Nielsen (Kevin), Tim Smith (Kathy), and Phil Smith (Janet); and his countless nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents George and Jean, his in-laws Norm and Mary Smith; sister Debbie Guthart, brothers John and Doug; and brothers-in-law Norm Kraetz and Max Guthart.

Visitation Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 3-8 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 30200 Five Mile Road, Livonia Michigan 48154. Instate Friday, August 23, 2024 from 10:30 am until time of Mass at 11 am at St. Genevieve-St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison Street, Livonia, Michigan 48154. Interment will be private at a future date.
