Eileen Mae Simon, or Bema as she was known to most, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in Canton, MI, wrapped in love by her children and close family at the age of 78.

Eileen Mae was born on August 28, 1945 in Detroit, MI, to Thomas and Rose Musson. Devoted mother of Kirk Simon (Malgosia), David Simon (Bethany), and Kristen Gephart (Don). Proud grandmother, or Bema, to Amanda, Gavin, Ian, Aria, Stella, and Dominik. Beloved sister to Patricia Gazdecki (Anthony), Beverly Stramecki (Thomas), and the late Thomas Musson (Dolores). Godmother to Matt Gazdecki (Julie) and Bryan Stramecki (Jessica). Loving aunt to a great many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, and former spouse, Gary Simon.

Eileen graduated from St. Alphonsus High School in Dearborn, MI, class of 1963. After high school, Eileen worked for Farmer Jack, and later as a data entry operator in the marketing industry until 2013. She married Gary Simon in 1972, with whom they had their three children together. Eileen was an avid bowler, who, along with her bowling league, took trips to the Bahamas, Mexico, and Las Vegas. She was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress.

Eileen was a devout Catholic, who practiced her religion in her daily life. With an infectious smile and sparkling green eyes, Eileen would make most anyone she came into contact with feel welcomed and listened to. She was a kind, caring, selfless person. Possessed with a witty, dry sense of humor, and a smirk that anyone who knew her, knows well.

Anytime the house was full of people her heart was full as well. She loved and valued when family gathered together. She hosted many family gatherings at her home in Canton, Michigan. Eileen also enjoyed summers spent with her friends and loved ones at her family’s cottage in the Irish Hills, MI. Her interests included planting flowers, late night card playing, and solving crossword puzzles. She would never turn down a cup of coffee, or a piece of salted caramel. Above all, her biggest interests were those involving her children and grandchildren. She attended as many events as she could, including sports practices and games, musicals, graduations, and many other milestones. Bema was everyone’s number one cheerleader.

A visitation to celebrate and remember Eileen’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, from 3-7pm, followed by The Rosary at 7pm, at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren Rd, Canton, MI 48187. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 11am (10:30 instate) at St. John Neumann Church, 44800 Warren Rd, Canton, MI 48187 Eileen will be laid to rest at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, MI.
