Edward Paul Traver, of Canton Michigan, passed away on January 13, 2025, at the age of 75. Edward was born on March 24, 1949, in Garden City, Michigan to Alvah and Mary Traver. Devoted husband to Inette for 37 years. Loving father of Daryl (Michelle) Traver, Derek Traver, and Shannon Ostrowski. Cherished grandfather to Darin, Nicholas (McKenzie), Morgan, Brianna, and Lucas. Beloved great-grandfather to Weston, Elijah, and Oliver. Loving brother to Jean (Will), the late Thomas (Sandy), The late James (Ann), Larry (Suzanne), Sally (Dave), Eloise (the late Greg), and Mark (Corrie). Many cherished nieces and nephews also survive Ed.

Ed served in the Army Airborne from 1966 to 1969 and was stationed in Germany. He received medals and commendations as a Sharpshooter M14, earned a Parachute badge and was a recipient of the National Defense Service medal. Once his tour of duty was complete, Ed continued serving his country by joining the National Guard.

Ed’s career as a truck driver with Chevrolet kept him on the move for 23 years. After his years on the road wound down, he could never sit still for long, enjoying golf, working in the yard, reading, listening to sports radio in the garage, and watching Fox News in the basement. If you’ve ever seen Ed’s basement at home, you can see all his favorite friends and family pictures, memories, and memorabilia. For the past 7 years, Ed worked part-time at Painters Supply & Equipment Company, delivering specialty paint to the Metro Detroit area. He loved his colleagues, and they quickly became his friends.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed events such as the Traver annual canoe trip, vacations to warm tropical destinations, dancing at weddings, listening to country music, and telling stories. As a true Detroit sports fan, Ed could often be found cheering for the Lions and Tigers, and he never missed a chance to catch a game while enjoying a cold Miller Lite. He was so excited for this year’s Lions season, and we know he will continue to cheer his teams from above. His warm smile and friendly demeanor made him a beloved presence in any room. Ed captivated everyone with his stories and was one of the nicest people you will ever meet on this planet. He cherished the time spent with his wife, Inette, and his family and friends.

To honor Ed, the family is planning a celebration of life on Saturday, March 1, at his favorite neighbor hangout, Spoon’s Place, from 1:00-4:00 pm. We hope you can come to share stories, laughter, perhaps a few tears, and of course, raise our Miller Lite bottles in a toast to the wonderful man who touched all our lives. Here’s to you Ed, may you forever enjoy one of the best seats in the house.

In place of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to the American Lung Association.
