Edward Sacha passed away September 8, 2023 at the age of 88. He was born December 2, 1934 in Hamtramck, Michigan to Joseph and Sophia Sacha. Edward proudly served in the US Army. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Chester (Patricia) Sacha, Henry (Stella) Sacha, and Harry (Eleanor) Sacha. Edward was survived by six nieces, two nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ed was born on a kitchen table in the Hamtramck home of his immigrant parents Joseph and Sophie Sacha. Growing up in the heart of the Great Depression instilled the life long values of appreciation for work, the importance of saving and trust in God. Living in the midst of World Two II and the Korean War instilled an unyielding patriotism and love of this country that he never lost. After high school, Ed followed his older brothers’ footsteps and enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Germany. Upon his return home, Ed earned a bachelor and master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. He spent his career teaching science in the Detroit Public School system and served on several State committees that designed science curriculum. He took care of his parents in their Hamtramck home until they passed away when he then purchased the house of his dreams in Livonia Michigan. There he continued his mother’s tradition of hosting a Christmas night gathering of extended family.

Ed was a member of the Catholic Alumni Association where he met many of his lifelong friends and was always an active member of his parish. Eddie was proud of his Polish heritage, travelled the world, enjoyed gardening and the loved the arts. His house was decorated with the beautiful pieces he purchased while traveling to almost every continent on earth. He loved to read books and read the daily paper from cover to cover. He became a whiz at the daily crossword puzzle and could stand toe to toe with anyone discussing current events. Although Ed never played organized sports, he was a lifelong Michigan Wolverine, Detroit Tiger and Detroit Lion’s fan.
