Daryl C. McCabe of Ypsilanti, MI passed away August 7, 2024 at the age of 75. He was born April 24, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Lloyd and Marilyn McCabe.

As a teenager, he formed the locally known band, Daryl Knight and the Nightbeats. Daryl loved to tell the story that when he was called to serve in the Air Force, Ted Nugent replaced him as lead singer in the band. Daryl’s band also played gigs with George “Gino” Washington, also a local Detroit singer, who had 2 local hits in the 60’s.

Daryl proudly served in the US Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic supporting the troops during the Vietnam War, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sargent. His dedication to his fellow soldiers would carry on throughout his life. He was an avid donor and supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.

As a member of the UAW, he worked for Ford Motor Company for 35 years.

Daryl was an avid Harley Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and “wrencher”. He and his best buddy Ro built a custom chopper that won multiple awards at numerous Detroit Auto and Bike shows including Autorama and the Michigan Custom Motorcycle Show. His enthusiasm for motorcycles was infectious. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Kelly, and brother Gary and his wife Denise.
