As family and friends can certainly attest, Cameron Johnson truly understood the secret to a life well lived. He was a constant source of strength, even in the most difficult of times. Nothing brought Cameron more joy than surrounding himself with his loved ones. His primary focus each and every day was building deep and personal relationships with those around him, and he was always willing to go above and beyond to serve others. Dearly missed, Cameron will be forever loved by those who knew him best.

The 1990s were an exciting time to be living as constant developments in technology made everyday life easier and more enjoyable for many. What made the start of the 90s even more exhilarating for Michael Johnson and Elaine Baublitz, of Detroit, Michigan, was that they were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their third baby. On July 15, 1990, their wait was over, and they welcomed their son, who they named Cameron Phillip, into the world.

Growing up, Cameron was a typical young man of his generation in many ways. He was raised in the family home alongside his siblings, Lindsey, Michael, and Kaitlyn. The Johnson children were very close, and Cameron was a fierce protector of his sister, Kaitlyn, from a young age. He loved playing basketball and fishing with his brother, Michael. Cameron enjoyed being outdoors, riding bikes, rollerblading, and riding his moped with his friends. The Johnsons spent many nights together as a family. Cameron was very kind and had a big heart. He and Kaitlyn would shovel the sidewalks during the winter and help their elderly neighbor with yard work.

Throughout his childhood, Cameron attended local schools and got his first job as a paperboy for the Livonia Observer. He worked as a cart boy at Kroger for a time, then delivered pizzas once he got his driver’s license. Cameron also worked in the deli section at Meijer, where he met his former girlfriend, Crystal. After graduating from Livonia Franklin High School, Cameron began to pursue further education at Schoolcraft College with the goal of becoming an EMT. However, he soon set his sights on business management, and he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree while both working hard at Coca-Cola and stopping at the lake house to check on his grandmother often.

Of all the things Cameron loved in life, he treasured his family above all else. When he was a kid, his family started growing as his nieces, Jossalyn and Legacy, were born. When he was 12, he gained a stepfather, John. Sadly, when Cameron was 15, the Johnson family was dealt a devastating blow when Cameron’s father, Michael, passed away. After a few years the family began to grow again and Cameron was overjoyed to become an uncle to many more nieces and nephews: Dracen, Michael Jr., Bentley, Kennedy, Arabella, and Kassidy. He loved them like they were his own children, and he doted on them whenever he could. Cameron did his best to serve as a good example for all his nieces and nephews. He was a firm believer that family came first, and he always considered himself blessed to watch his family continue to grow and include many more loved ones and even some pets.

Never one to sit still for long, Cameron pursued many hobbies to stay busy in his free time. He loved to experience thrills, and he enjoyed taking trips to Cedar Point with his family. He liked to go camping and spend time outdoors. In the winter, Cameron made sure to make it up north for snowmobiling with his parents and siblings. Cameron enjoyed decorating for holidays, especially Halloween, and he would put on a fireworks show for his family and neighbors on the Fourth of July. He also loved going to summer car shows with his stepfather. He got a boat and loved taking the family tubing and enjoying the water with them. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Red Wings. Cameron was known for often saying “what you give is what you get,” and he lived this motto out by treating others the way he would want to be treated. He was always determined to live his life to the fullest.

One of the happiest days of Cameron’s life was when he bought his first motorcycle. Though he hid it from his mother at first, the motorcycle brought him many adventures and much joy as he loved riding at night and fixing his bike. Soon, he realized he needed an upgrade and bought a new bike which became his prized possession. Decked out with blue lights, he enjoyed taking care of this new bike and showing it off, one time even being caught on google streetview cleaning his bike. In 2013, while waiting for dinner, Cameron was involved in an accident after heading out for an afternoon ride. After this accident, Cameron lived with a traumatic brain injury that forever changed the trajectory of his life. He fought hard every day to survive, and spend more time with his family, while in a vegetative state for the past 11 years.

When reflecting on the life of Cameron Johnson, it is easy to see both his unwavering strength and unconditional love for his family. He was a shining example of humbleness and service to others, and he faced challenges head-on with graciousness, courage, and determination. A devoted son, brother, and uncle, Cameron was a friend to many and beloved by all. His contagious smile could bring light to any room, and his insatiable zest for life could be felt by all around him. Though he will be deeply missed, Cameron leaves behind a priceless legacy that his loved ones will be proud to carry on in his footsteps.

Cameron Phillip Johnson of Whitmore Lake passed away September 22, 2024 at the age of 34. Beloved son of Elaine (John) Baublitz and the late Michael Johnson. Dearest brother of the late Lindsey Johnson, Michael (Kari) Johnson, and Kaitlyn (Randy) Kendzorek. Loving uncle of Jossalyn, Legacy, Dracen, Michael Jr., Bentley, Kennedy, Arabella, and Kassidy. Cameron was predeceased by his grandparents Garry & Norene Johnson and John & Lois Wood.
