Dorothy H. Watters was a loving wife, devoted mother, caring grandmother and faithful friend. Her days were marked by wonderful travels around the world, as well as a deep commitment and compassion to helping others in need. Her warm memories will forever be engraved on the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

During an era that saw the large-scale boom of automobiles, telephones and motion pictures, as well as unprecedented industrial growth and significant changes in our nation’s culture, Sylvester and Antoinette Kollins welcomed the arrival of their only precious daughter, Dorothy on January 7, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan.

Growing up during our nation’s toughest economic times with nearly half of the country’s banks already failing and millions of Americans without jobs, Dorothy loved to visit her father at the bakery where he worked and pitch in beside her mother and grandmother at the family store.

Dorothy was proud to have acquired the ability to both read and write fluently in Polish and also mastered the accordion. Valuing education, she attended Redford High School in Detroit where during a special ceremony she met the love of her life, James A. Watters. Together, she and James would raise their wonderful and only son James E. named after his father. Dorothy had a professional career that began working as an operator with Michigan Bell. Later, she retired as an analyst manager with AT&T. A woman with a strong sense of family, she loved to share time and care for her mother, Antoinette and the family’s beloved pet Boxer, Taffy.

Their son Jim’s marriage to his loving wife, Marcia richly blessed Dorothy and her late husband with beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she cherished. Dorothy enjoyed many years of bowling, golf, playing Bridge, surfing the Internet and completing Crossword puzzles. She modeled a lifetime of community service through her involvement in many organizations, especially the Livonia Goodfellows where she volunteered her time to help provide a bit of holiday cheer for needy children in the Livonia area. Sadly, Dorothy passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 leaving behind a rich legacy of love and fond memories.

Dorothy H. Watters, passed away at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late James A. Loving mother of Jim (Marcia).
