All who knew Barbara Kreza would agree that she was an extraordinary woman to know and love.

It was during the dark days of the Great Depression that Barbara’s journey began when she was born in Detroit on December 23, 1937. Named Barbara Jean, she was the younger of two children born to her parents, Barbara and Anthony Galas, as she was raised in the family home on the East side of Detroit alongside her older brother, Ronald.

With her formal education behind her, Barbara was poised for all that life had in store. She worked as a nurse’s aid at St. Joseph Hospital, and it was there that she met the man of her dreams. His name was Jerry Kreza, and he was the only man she ever loved. They were soon smitten, and with a desire to establish the rest of their lives together Barbara and Jerry were married in a small wedding ceremony, marking the beginning of a new chapter in a love story that would span 57 years.

A loving wife and mother, Barbara treasured these roles. She and Jerry were blessed with the births of two children, Craig and Scott. Holidays were precious family times, and most were spent at the homes of her children. Although Barbara could appear as a bit over-protective, she was very loving and loyal where her family was concerned. Priceless family memories were also made together on a trip out to California when Barbara’s brother-in-law got married.

A busy woman who made the most of every day she was given, Barbara was a woman of many interests. She was a Bingo fanatic who also looked forward to church on Saturday nights. In addition to caring for her home and family, Barbara worked as a tool grip attendant at a local printing company. She loved Turner Classic Movies and anything John Wayne, especially The Searchers. Barbara also enjoyed reading in her spare time.

Outspoken, colorful, and unique, Barbara Kreza was unforgettable. With her warm, genuine, and gracious personality, she could fit in with any crowd, blessing everyone she met.

Barbara Jean Kreza, age 79, passed away January 23, 2017 peacefully with her husband of 57 years, Gerald, by her side. Loving mother of Craig (Marsha), Scott and daughter in law Lisa. Cherished grandmother of Zackary, Joshua, Brooke, Gabrielle and Annalise. Family will receive friends Thursday 2-9 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren Road (between Sheldon and Canton Center Rds) where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM.
