Ruth Eleanor Tschirhart, of Canton, Michigan passed away November 23, 2024 at the age of 95. She was born on June 20, 1929 to Thomas and Ruth Downey.

Devoted wife of the late Leo for 67 years. Loving mother of Michael (Donna), Karen (Michael) Goss, Lee (Laurie), and Mark (Catherine). Cherished grandmother of David (Alicia), Eric, Kara (Michael) Laitila, Jeffrey (Shauna), Lauren, and Alex. Beloved great-grandmother of Olivia, Madeleine, Thomas, Colette, and Mina. Adored sister of Jean (the late Bernard) Lindquist, Irene (Thomas) Krajnovic, the late Leo (Mary) Downey, and Judith (William) Bastian. Eleanor is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was born in Detroit, MI and lived there until her marriage to Leo. Eleanor met Leo at a dance in Detroit after he was discharged from the Army. They married on August 9, 1952 and had their first child the following year. Eleanor was the heart of the home and family as a busy homemaker raising 4 children. She was a kind and gentle mom who enjoyed baking family favorites and decorating birthday cakes.

Eleanor loved to garden and spent a lot of time outdoors tending to her annual and perennial gardens. Her garden included a rose bush propagated from a rose given to her by a little boy when she was a little girl. That rose bush still flowers every year. In a different time, she would have loved to have owned a floral shoppe. Eleanor was also an avid reader and enjoyed putting together puzzles, sewing, and cross-stitching. In her younger days, she found joy in bowling and golfing.

Eleanor was proud of her Irish heritage and was fortunate to be able to visit beautiful Ireland with her sisters on a memorable vacation.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Neely-Turowski Funeral Home, 45100 Warren, Canton, MI 48187.
