Life Story / Obituary

Patricia Ann Duthie (Pat) of Canton passed away February 27, 2021 after battling with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Parkinson’s. Born in Detroit on January 10, 1945, she spent her early life in Detroit before attending Central Michigan University and settling in Canton to raise her family. Pat was the beloved wife of the late Dale for 25 years. Loving Mother of John (Elizabeth), and Karen Duthie. Dear Grandmother of Gavin Duthie. Sister of George (Laura) Prayner. Sister-In-Law of Diane (Gary) Williams and Dennis (Marlene) Duthie and Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Catherine Prayner.

Pat was a proud retiree of South Redford Public Schools where she spent more than 25 years teaching High School English and Government. She loved challenging and igniting young minds and was always proud of her students’ achievements.

Pat was quick witted and soft hearted with a generous soul. She was always the first to help anyone in need. Pat was an avid Broadway fan and some of her happiest memories were made when the curtain went up. She loved to read and could often be found sitting in her favorite chair, nose deep in the latest science fiction or mystery best seller.

Pat will be dearly missed by all but her family and friends find solace in knowing that she is reunited with her true love. The family will hold a private memorial service celebrating Pat’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or Broadway Cares.

This time in history is marked with too much loss for too many families. Hug your loved ones extra tight today because as they say in Pat’s favorite musical, Hamilton “Death doesn't discriminate between the sinners and the saints, it takes and it takes and it takes, and we keep living anyway....”
