In loving memory of Jeanne Violet Szura

October 30,1929 - June 28, 2025

Jeanne Szura, beloved mother, teacher, and friend passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, at the age of 95, at her home in Cary, NC, surrounded by family. Though she was called Mom or Grandmama, "Busi" is how she was best known by friends, loved ones and all who were lucky enough to share in her warmth, her wit, and her wisdom.

Jeanne was born in Detroit, Michigan to Ludwika and Walenty Michalek. She attended Mercy High School and graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in education. She married her college sweetheart, Daniel Thomas Szura, who preceded her in death. Together they raised a family of four, moving from Troy, Michigan to Colts Neck, New Jersey when Dan took a job with Merck & Co. Jeanne continued her career, teaching middle school at St. Benedict's in Holmdel, New Jersey. She was a beloved teacher who had a special gift for making learning meaningful and fun.

Outside the classroom, Jeanne loved getting lost in a good book, preferably reading on a sunny beach. She was also a formidable bridge player, always up for a challenge at the card table. As she grew older, being a lifelong learner, she mastered the computer staying current on events, searching for the perfect recipe, and playing bridge versus the machine!

A highlight of her life was the unforgettable trip she took with her family to Poland. She was able to meet, for the first time, her Polish relatives from both sides of her family. It could not have been a more loving reunion, connecting her with her heritage and creating treasured memories that she carried throughout her life.

Jeanne will be remembered for her quiet strength, her thoughtful nature, and her fierce love for her family. She leaves behind her children Laura Lynne Daehler (Carl) and Brian Szura (Bridget) of Cary, NC., Mary Kathryn Szura of Wake Forest, NC., as well as grandchildren Leda Jeanne Daehler of Jacksonville, FL; Ella Jane Szura, Magdalene Szura, and Daniel Szura, all of Cary, NC.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 10th, 11:00 am, at Saint Sabina Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

Burial will be on Friday, July 11, at Fort Custer National Cemetery located near Kalamazoo, Michigan.
