A man who could find the silver lining along any black cloud, Henry “Hank” Klobucar was an extraordinary man to know and love. He had a vibrant sense of humor and the ability to take whatever came his way in stride as he was never one to take life too seriously. Hank had a successful career and accomplished much of which to be proud, yet there was nothing that brought him more joy than being with the ones he loved. He was outgoing, bubbly, and always had something to say - often accompanied by his quick wit. As someone who lived life to the fullest each day, Hank leaves behind a priceless collection of memories that will never be forgotten.

The colorful days of the Roaring Twenties were deeply rooted in prosperity throughout the nation until the crash of the stock market on October 29, 1929. This was the decade when automobiles became more affordable thanks to the assembly line and Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh explored the skies like had never been done before. This was a time to be footloose and fancy free when jazz music was hot and dances like the Charleston were among the latest trends. Amidst this eventful time was the year 1928 that brought great joy to a young couple from Highland Park, Michigan, as they announced the birth of their baby boy on December 19th. Henry M. was born to Frank and Katherine Klobucar, and he was raised in the family home alongside his seven siblings, Frances, Mary, Antonia, Stevie, Rose, Frank, and Bill in Highland Park, located within Metro Detroit. His father worked as a miner while his mother had more than enough to keep her busy at home. Hank, as he was usually known, was a student at local schools who later graduated from Highland Park High School. A firm believer in education, Hank went on to earn an accounting degree from Wayne State University.

With tension growing overseas in the Korean Conflict, Hank joined the ranks of young men sent overseas to serve. While in the military he rose to the rank of sergeant in the United States Army. After two years Hank had fulfilled his military duties and returned to Michigan.

After graduating from Wayne State Law School, Hank was poised for a rewarding career. He practiced law for a short time but ended up going back to school to work toward becoming a CPA at Ernst/Ernst. Through the years he worked in a variety of executive positions within different divisions. In the mid-seventies Hank established his own financial planning business. Through his work he was a member of the Michigan Bar Association as well as a member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA).

When it came to family, Hank had a lot to be thankful for. In 1957 he married his first wife, Pauline, and although their marriage ended in divorce in 1973, he was blessed by the children they shared including Morgan, Joseph, and Peter. His family eventually grew to include four grandchildren, Shelby, Sydne, Casey, and Ryan.

Later in life Hank married Cheryl with whom he shared the rest of his life. Together they loved to travel, and through the years they visited several national parks across the country. In addition to traveling, Hank also loved to fish, enjoyed classical music, and keeping up with all the Detroit teams. For several years he was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

All who knew Henry “Hank” Klobucar would agree that he was truly one of a kind. He lived by the notion that “life is too short” and never dwelled on the negative. Cheerful, generous, and gregarious, Hank knew what it meant to work hard, but he also took the time to enjoy life along the way. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Henry “Hank” Klobucar died on May 6, 2014. Hank’s family includes his wife, Cheryl; children, Morgan (Terese) Wolf, Joseph (Linda), Peter (Martha); grandchildren, Shelby, Sydne, Casey, and Ryan. Hank was preceded in death by his siblings, Frances, Mary, Antonia, Stevie, Rose, Frank, and Bill. Family will receive friends Thursday 2-9 p.m. at the Neely Turowski Life Story Funeral Home, 45100 Warren, (west of Sheldon) with a rosary service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday 2:30 p.m. at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, (just east of the Funeral Home) with a 2:00 p.m. in state. Please visit www.TurowskiLifeStory.com where you can leave a memory or sign the online guestbook.
