Charles F. Monroe, of Livonia, age 84, died April 17, 2021. He was the loving husband of the former Mary F. Buckalew for 60 years and together they raised four children: Laura (Juan), Douglas (Carol), Christopher, and Elizabeth (Kevin). He was exceptionally proud that each of his children earned doctoral degrees in their specialties and gave him ten grandchildren: Ian, Caitlin (Chad), Christian, Mairin, Kate, Mary, Helen, Courtney, Cameron, and Cassandra, as well as his first great-grandchild, Samson. He took great pride in all of their accomplishments.

Chuck earned his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Detroit and his M.S. in both Actuarial Science and Physics from the University of Michigan. After spending a decade working as an actuary for various firms, he decided to open his own highly successful firm, Monroe and Associates, leading it for the rest of his life. His greatest pride came from raising children and grandchildren. As a father and grandfather, he was active in all of their lives, teaching each to achieve their potential. As a skilled amateur pianist, music was another passion he shared with his wife Mary and his children, enriching all of their life experiences.

He was predated in death by his sister Yvonne. He was a believer in self-determination and self-discovery and will be sorely missed.

A memorial Mass will take place Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 11 am (instate at 10 am) at St. Genevieve – St. Maurice Catholic Church, 29015 Jamison St., Livonia. Burial of cremated remains to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, Michigan.
