Bernard Kaye Barrowcliff passed away on July 8th in the arms of his beloved wife, Carolyn, of 65

and a half years and surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Born in Detroit on July 17th,

1934, Bernie’s life truly began when he attended the University of Michigan. There he studied

Mechanical Engineering but more importantly met the love of his life, Carolyn. Bernie

graduated from the U of M in 1957. Afterward, he was commissioned from the ROTC into the

United States Air Force and stationed in Seattle, Washington. There he graduated from the

University of Washington with a degree in Meteorology. After his service, Bernie joined the

ranks of Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1997 after 35 years. A true gentleman, Bernie was

selfless, calm, and thoughtful. He always put others before himself. He was kind to his fellow

man and devoted to his family. Bernie was an avid reader, keen fisherman, and lover of all

thing’s chocolate. Bernie loved U of M Football and was a season ticket holder for decades. He

also loved the Indianapolis 500, which he regularly attended for more than 20 years. Strong till

the very end, Bernie was preceded in death by his father, Claude, mother, Blanche, sister,

Marion, and brother-in-law, Fred. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn. Cherished by his

children Craig (Trish), Kim, and Darren (Deborah). Adored by his grandchildren Jackie (Mark),

Jenny (Russ), Meghan (Mark), Darren (Sabriyah), Ryan (Samantha), Andrew, Grant (Chelsea),

and Baxter. He was blessed with great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Brendan, Austin, Ellery, Luca,

Isa, Olivia, Genevieve, and Jack.
