Life Story / Obituary
Antoinette Rollinger, 90, of Livonia, passed away peacefully on July 27 with her children at her side.
Toni was a loving mother to James (Marilyn) Rollinger and Laurie (William) Petrusha. She is predeceased by her daughter, Nancy. She is grandmother to Jacob, Olivia and Natalie Rollinger and Kalyna, Nick and Maria Petrusha. Toni was a loving second mother to her nieces Susan (Randy) Smith and Barb (Mark) Smythe after their parents passed away many years ago. She is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews. Toni was truly the matriarch of both the Rollinger and Lourie families. And she loved this role.
Antoinette was born on May 31, 1934 to King and Ida Lourie in Ecorse, Michigan. She was one of 8 siblings who all predeceased her. She is survived by her dear sister-in-law, Pat Durham.
Toni married James (Jim) Rollinger in 1960, and built a loving family together. They enjoyed 27 years of marriage until Jim's untimely passing in 1988. Toni met Tony Coppola on the dance floor in 1992 and they were wonderful companions for 25 years until his death in 2017.
Antoinette was a hard worker outside the home. She had part time bookkeeping jobs while raising two children. After Jim's death, she secured a full time bookkeeping job at Intra Corporation, and she worked there for 12 years.
Toni had a real zest for life and "up for anything" attitude. She loved the game of golf and she realized a golfer's dream of getting a hole in one while in her "Whiffs-A-Lot" golf league. She met many lifelong friends while golfing, and she relished getting together with those ladies until her passing .
Toni loved to play cards! She played euchre, pinochle, canasta and 313. She never played a card game that she could not master.
Toni was creative. In her younger years, she could be found creating all kinds of items for the St Genevieve Altar Society craft shows. She also loved to sew, and made both clothes for the family as well as costumes for all occasions. In later years, she took up watercolor painting. Her pieces are displayed in her home and sought after by her family. Also in her later years, she furthered her sewing passion by learning to quilt. Some of her favorite trips were to quilt retreats with her nieces and friends.
Toni loved flowers! Her artwork reflected her love for nature, and her yard is a lovely display of perennials that bloom throughout the summer. She enjoyed gardening and spending time outside.
Toni loved vacations and traveling. Whether it was a family trip to Camp Dearborn, a visit to California, a winter spent in Florida, a cruise to Alaska, or a day trip to Stratford, Toni delighted in seeing new things and visiting with people she loved.
Toni was an avid "collector" and her basement is a testament to a garage sale that never got scheduled.
Toni's true passion was the people in her life. Her vibrant personality was fun to be around and her laugh was infectious. She would drop everything to help a friend or family member in need. She took care of everyone. She will be dearly missed.
